VPN / Proxy Check explained

What Does This Tool Check?

This tool classifies whether a given IP address is likely associated with a VPN, public proxy, Tor exit node, or hosting/data-center infrastructure, based on known address ranges published by VPN providers, cloud platforms, and reputation databases. It is the same category of signal many websites use behind the scenes to flag non-residential traffic.

Why It Is Not Perfect

VPN providers regularly rotate and add new IP ranges, and some deliberately use addresses that resemble ordinary residential ISPs to avoid detection, so no classification service catches every case. Treat a "clean" result as "nothing detected" rather than a guarantee, and a "VPN/proxy detected" result as a reasonable signal rather than absolute proof.

Typical Uses

Site owners use this kind of check to understand unusual traffic patterns or apply stricter rules to non-residential visitors, while individuals use it to confirm their own VPN connection is actually routing through a different network than their home ISP.
