What you should know
IP geolocation estimates the geographic area associated with an IP address by matching it against databases that map address ranges to the region where an internet provider has registered and routed them. This tool returns the best available estimate for an IPv4 or IPv6 address -- typically a country, region, and city-level area.
Accuracy depends heavily on the provider and connection type. Fixed broadband connections are often reasonably close to city level. Mobile networks, satellite connections, and VPN or corporate proxy traffic can resolve to a location far from the actual device -- sometimes an entirely different city or country, since the address you see may belong to a data center or a carrier's regional gateway rather than the device itself.
IP geolocation cannot pinpoint a street address, a specific building, or a person's identity -- it was never designed to, and no legitimate provider claims otherwise. Treat any result here as a general area, useful for things like localizing content or spotting obviously mismatched traffic, not as a precise locator.
